Why RYS was created
Ronald Dumeloo founded RateYourSociety in Ghana and launched it in June 2023. The starting point was a simple problem: traditional surveys can be slow and demanding, while online conversations can generate plenty of noise without showing the emotional picture clearly.
RYS lowers that barrier with familiar emoji reactions. A person can respond without writing an essay, and each response contributes to a live emotional profile of the topic. That makes public sentiment easier to express, compare and understand across politics, culture, entertainment, public figures, services and everyday life.
The participation model is designed for both online audiences and direct community outreach. RYS has described gathering responses in places such as markets, stations, churches and schools so that public-sentiment work can include people beyond a typical online survey audience.
Since its first launch, RateYourSociety has grown into a wider platform for communities, live Square conversations, opinions, polls, signatures and petitions, study tools, interactive games, live events, giving and community recognition.
